Jay W. Pettegrew, M.D., Chairman and President – Dr. Pettegrew attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign from 1962 to 1965 where he was in the Chemistry Honors Program and completed his Senior Honors Thesis his junior year.  During that time he was elected a member of Phi Eta Sigma (Honors Scholastic) and Omega Beta Pi (Honors Premedical).  From 1965 to 1969 he was a medical student as well as a graduate student in Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Chicago, where he received his M.D. degree in 1969 and also the Borden Undergraduate Research Award.  From 1969 to 1971, Dr. Pettegrew was a Harriet Lane Program Pediatric Intern and Resident at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.  From 1971 to 1975 he was a National Institute of Neurological Disease and Stroke (NINDS) Special Fellow in Neurology in Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri.  Dr. Pettegrew then served two years in the United States Navy where he was a Staff Neurologist at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia and held the rank of LCDR, MC, USNR.  From 1977 to 1984, Dr. Pettegrew was an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of Texas Medical School, Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Pettegrew has been at the University of Pittsburgh since 1984 where he is a tenured Full Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Neurology, Bioengineering, and Behavioral and Community Health Sciences.  He is an internationally recognized expert in the area of neurochemistry/neurophysics and the development and application of magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in neuropsychiatric disorders.  He has extensive experience in the application of in vitro and in vivo MRSI/MRI methods to normal brain development and aging, Alzheimer's disease, alcoholism, autism, major depressive disorders, and schizophrenia.  Dr. Pettegrew has over 300 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals related to his research.  Dr. Pettegrew is a member of sixteen national and international scientific societies including being elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (1987), The American Psychopathological Association, Inc., and the Royal Society of Medicine (England) 2000.  Dr. Pettegrew is a reviewer for seventeen international scientific journals and has been invited to give over 100 national and international lectures.  Dr. Pettegrew has been a recipient of continuous NIH research funding since 1989 and has been an extra-mural NIH grant reviewer since 1984. 

Samuel Gershon, M.D., Vice-PresidentDr. Samuel Gershon joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in April 1988, as Associate Vice Chancellor for Research in the Health Sciences, and Associate Research Director for the Neurosciences in the Department of Psychiatry.  He stepped down from this position in 1995 and assumed the position of Chairman of the University of Pittsburgh, Institutional Review Board.  Prior to his tenure with the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Gershon was Director of the Neuropsychopharmacology Research Unit at New York University for 16 years.  He then assumed the position of Professor and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Wayne State University and was also the Director of the Lafayette Clinic.  He was a longtime recipient of NIH Research Support during his years as an investigator.

Dr. Gershon’s career as a psychiatrist and investigator spans more that 50 years.  During this time he has published more than 600 writings and has won several prestigious awards including, among others, the Pfizer Scholarship for Medical Research Overseas and the American Psychiatric Association’s Rush Gold Medal Award.  His area of specific interest and work encompasses psychopharmacological interest in various psychiatric areas.  He is currently the Co-Editor of Bipolar Disorders – An International Journal of Psychiatry and Neurosciences and has been since its inception in 1998.  He is also a founding Councilor of the International Society for Bipolar Disorders and was elected as President in 2001.

 Marilyn C. Pettegrew, Secretary – Mrs. Pettegrew has 21 years of experience in real estate; 3 years in management, and 18 years in Sales at Smythe-Cramer Realtors, Cleveland, Ohio which has merged with Howard Hanna Realtors of Pittsburgh, PA.  Marilyn has been a certified real estate appraiser since 1995.  Among her many awards are the Quality Service Award, Professional of the Year Award, and President’s Sales Club Award.  During her years in real estate, Marilyn sold over 35 million dollars in residential property and has been ranked in the top 5% of realtors nationwide.

Robert F. Demangone, Treasurer – Mr. Demangone is a graduate of Saint Vincent College, Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where he received a Bachelors of Science Degree in accounting.  For the past 13 years, Bob has been personal financial advisor to Arnold Palmer.  He has experience in all levels of business, personal finance and accounting.  He holds numerous officer positions within the affiliated businesses of Arnold Palmer Enterprises, Inc. 

Richard J. McClure, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist Dr. McClure attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where he obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry.  He has worked closely with Dr. Pettegrew for over 18 years in the application of in vitro and in vivo MRSI/MRI methods to normal brain development and aging, Alzheimer's disease, alcoholism, major depressive disorders, and schizophrenia. Dr. McClure has over 25 years of experience in computer data analysis and computer molecular modeling
